A Program ‘Filled’ with Possibilities for this Sharon Springs Senior at BOCES

SCHOHARIE – High school senior Kristina Kennedy has a future filled with possibilities thanks to Capital Region BOCES.

The Culinary Arts and Hospitality Technology student is learning how to prepare meals for herself while enrolled in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program on the Schoharie CTE Campus and is planning a future that will take flight.

“I love cooking, and this will allow me to be able to make meals for myself when I live on my own,” she said during an end-of-school-year lesson.

Though that day’s lesson had her making jelly donuts, the program teaches students how to properly prepare a wide range of healthy and gourmet meals.

“I like the work we do in class and how we learn new things,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy plans to complete the program next year and then enroll in flight school knowing that no matter where she lands in the world, she will know how to prepare a meal for herself.

She is one of more than 100 students enrolled in the American Culinary Federation (ACF)-certified program that is offered on the Albany and Schoharie campuses. Graduates of the program work in restaurants and resorts around the region and beyond, own their establishment and even prepare food for professional sporting events.
