Catskills Folk Connection Hosting Multiple Dances
Including Saturday at the Margaretville FD
CATSKILL MOUNTAINS — Square dancing is on the rise again! Catskills Folk Connection put on its first dance of the season in Bovina last month, out Route 28 toward Delhi, and in Andes this past weekend there were hundreds at Catskills Old Time Music’s annual barbecue dinner and big square dance at the fire pavilion. The next CFC dance will take place on Saturday, July 25 at 7 pm in Margaretville at the Fire Department on Church Street (See the note at the end of this article), and then CFC is back in Bovina at their Community Hall on August 29. Up Route 30 the Breakabeen Grange’s next dance is on September 12. The next weekend, on September 19, up Route 30 -but not as far as Breakabeen - is the Conesville Historical Society’s annual square dance at the Fire Hall on Route 990V east of Route 30; it’s part of the town’s 250 th celebration, so look them up on Facebook for the day-long activities. On September 26 the CFC dance will be back in Margaretville at the Fire Hall --- that’s three weekends in a row that there are square dances in September! Later in the fall, in October and November, there will be dances scheduled for Breakabeen and Catskills Folk Connection.
Note: two of the musicians for Catskills Folk Connection’s upcoming dance in Margaretville on July 25 have had to cancel, but the caller is finding other musicians with square dance experience; watch here next week for a confirming update, either another press release or a display ad!
Catskills Folk Connection’s square dance series is supported by its mailing list members, dancers and musicians, and is funded in part by a Marketing Grant from Delaware County Economic Development’s Tourism Program, by an Upstate Theater Coalition’s FairGame Arts Grant, by the O’Connor Foundation, and by a Delaware County Arts Grant, a regrant from NYSCA, with support from Gov Hochul and the NYS Legislature, and administered in Del. Co. by the Roxbury Arts Group. For more information or to join CFC’s email list contact Ginny Scheer 607-238-9162 or gscheer.mcs@gmail.com.
