Historic Kirkside Opens Main Floor for Public Tours During Restoration Effort
ROXBURY — On Saturday, May 23, the public is invited to step inside Kirkside and experience a rare moment in the life of one of Roxbury’s most iconic historic buildings. The main floor of the mansion will be open for guided and self-guided tours from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the results of the ongoing historic deconstruction process as the building prepares for full restoration and renovation. Stripped back to its essential structure, Kirkside is revealing the craftsmanship, architectural details, and layered history that have shaped the estate for generations.
“The bones of the building tell a story,” said Peg Ellsworth, Executive Director or the MARK Project “This is a unique chance for the community to see the building in transition — not as a finished project, but as a living historic structure uncovering its past while preparing for its future.”
Guests will be able to explore the evolving spaces, learn more about preservation efforts underway, and gain insight into the vision for Kirkside’s next chapter as restoration plans continue to move forward.
The event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $10. Any larger donation gains an official Kirkside legacy souvenir.
Kirkside is located on Main Street in Roxbury, New York, adjacent to Kirkside Park and the historic Jay Gould Memorial Church.
