Information and Events at the Cobleskill Library for June of 2026
Paws for Reading, join our favorite therapy dogs, for reading and cuddles! This is a great, relaxed opportunity for kids to practice their reading with a friendly face. All ages welcome. No registration necessary. 10:30am Thursday, 18 with Nico. Our Paws partners are a certified pet therapy team through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We appreciate the opportunity to work with these teams. **Please note: Paws for Reading programs may have to be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice, according to therapy animal and handler availability. We recommend calling ahead on Paws for Reading days to check program status.
Fridays learn or relearn how to play the card game Bridge from 10-12 in the program room. No experience necessary A SCHOOL sponsored program.
Friday, June 5 at noon Fan Favorites Book Club. Join us on the first Friday of every month for our casual conversation about the books, tv series, and movies we love. No assigned readings, just a chance to meet people, talk about things you love, and perhaps pick up a few suggestions on things that will become your new favorite obsession.
Saturday, June 6 at 11 Children’s Music Concert with James K James K returns for more musical fun! This free concert includes plenty of songs, movement, and opportunities for participation. All ages welcome.
Tuesdays join your neighbors and make new friends during the Tuesday’s Yarn Group! You can find them in the program room at 1pm. Bring your own supplies and learn something new while you chat, listen or just get in your zone.
Tuesday, June 9 at 6 pm Teen Anime Club hang out with anime at the library! Each month we watch a couple of anime episodes, make an easy craft, and eat snacks. Open to grades 6 - 12 (ages 11 - 18).
Tuesday, June 9 at 6 pm Just Write! Inspired by conversations with Community Library patrons, this new program provides a comfortable space for writers to work quietly and independently, surrounded by others doing the same thing. No critique sessions, no lessons, no writing prompts--just a community of peers offering social accountability to help you stay on task and get some work done. We’ll take 10 minutes at the beginning to share our writing goals for the session and ten minutes at the end to report on progress, but the rest of the time is devoted to uninterrupted writing on your work-in-progress.
Wednesday weekly Story Time with Ms. Courtney at 10:30. Young children and their caregivers are invited to join us each week for fun stories, songs, and early literacy activities. No registration necessary.
Wednesdays from 1-4pm Mah Jong meets in the library. New players are welcome. If you have your 2026 card please bring it with you. A SCHOOL sponsored program.
Thursday, June 11 at 6pm Fuzzy Belly Fiber Friends We’re restarting our old Fuzzy Belly Felting Friends program, but opening it up to other fiber artists as well. We’re now Fuzzy Belly FIBER Friends! Bring your works-in-progress (knitting, crochet, felting, embroidery, weaving, whatever) and socialize with other crafters and artisans.
Friday, June 12 at 11am Day Writers This program is for folks seeking a creative outlet where they can write for fun and self-reflection and share their work with others. Moderator Don LaPlant will provide a few prompts and exercises and let writers respond in whatever way they'd like, whether it's poetry, short fiction, a political rant, nature writing, a personal memory from childhood, or some new literary hybrid no one's ever tried before. Participants can choose to share the works with the group, but our focus will be on personal enrichment rather than things like grammar, criticism, or a concern with getting published. Open to adults with any level of writing experience or training.
Saturday, June 13 at 10:15am the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting in the Library. Friends are holding monthly meetings. Interested in joining and learning more about upcoming fundraisers to support the Library and how you can help. Want to join The Friends? Tuesday, June 15 from noon to 2pm Tabling Tuesday: Bassett Cancer Services Drop by the library to talk with staff from the Bassett Healthcare outreach program to learn more about the cancer services they offer.
Tuesday, June 16 at 5pm Teen Dungeons & Dragons Come play D&D at the library with other teens and tweens! No experience needed. New players will have the chance to create a character when they arrive. Open to middle and high schoolers (ages 11-18). Snacks provided.
Wednesday, June 17 at 1pm Silver Screenings III: More Movie Matinees This popular film series returns in 2026! We'll eat some popcorn, watch a film featuring senior citizens as main characters, and have a moderated discussion afterwards led by librarian Don LaPlant. Our final film in this spring's Silver Screenings series is The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011, PG-13). Featuring a cast of British luminaries including Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, and Tom Wilkinson. The story follows a set of retirees who travel to Jaipur, India for diverse reasons, but whose lives intersect at the same cheap hotel. Free admission; no reservations required. For ages 17+.
Thursday, June 18 at 6pm Trivia Night! Assemble a team and join us for our monthly trivia contest covering a range of general knowledge categories. The Friends of the Library staff a table of snacks where donations are welcome.
Friday, June 19 the Library is closed in observance of Juneteenth. Reminder that our digital library is always open with Libby. The library wireless is always available on our property.
Saturday, June 20 from 11am to 1 pm Art in Action: Stomp and Stamp Painting Joining in the fun at Veteran’s Park for Art in Action? Stop by the Library for more art fun! Use paint and jumbo stamps to help us decorate a dinosaur-themed banner for Summer Reading, then make your own stamped card to take home!
The Library Board of Trustees meetings are on the fourth Tuesday and start at 4pm. The next Library Board of Trustees monthly meeting is Tuesday, June 23 at 4pm. Meetings are open to the public.
Tuesday, June 23 at 6 pm The Short Fiction Workshop: Adult Services Librarian, Don LaPlant running this monthly writing workshop for teens and adults’ featuring writing prompts, exercises, and moderated feedback sessions where authors working on short fiction can practice their craft, develop new skills, and get constructive input from other writers.
Tuesday, June 23 at 6pm Teen Video Game Night Unwind with Nintendo Switch games at the library! We've got multiple controllers, so bring some friends along for group games! Light snacks provided. Open to middle and high schoolers. Participants may bring their own Switch controllers, but not their own games or Switch consoles to play.
Saturday, June 27 at 11 Wiggle Worms Play and Explore Stop by the library for some age-appropriate play and discovery time with sensory toys and activity stations. For babies and toddlers ages 3-24 months and their caregivers.
Tuesday, June 30 from 4 to 6pm Teen Volunteers Summer Reading Prep With one week to go until our Summer Reading Program begins, we need help to get everything ready! Tasks may include stuffing sign up bags, making buttons, and making or hanging decorations. Open to middle and high schoolers. Registration required. Can't make the full two-hour event? We are excited to announce that our cardholders now have access to the child, teen and adult collections of Comics Plus. Comics Plus is a digital platform offering thousands of digital comics, graphic novels and manga. You can find the link on our website under “Online Resources” tab. Library of Things – Did you know the library has museum passes, fishing poles, binoculars, blu-ray player, and board games that you can borrow with your library card for free? New museum passes include The Children’s Museum at Saratoga, Mass MOCA, and the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Coming soon Museum passes for the Springfield Museums, and the Paleontological Research Institute.
Educate Station – A free access to worksheets, activities and learning plans with your library card. The site has practical and easy to use online resources for parents, guardians and educators working with students in grades prek-5. The Library’s Local History Room is by appointment. We have limited information on genealogy and recommend if you are looking for family history, please visit the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie which is also by appointment. You can access Ancestry.com on our public computers.
The Green Better World Book Donation box! Did you know we make more money on the books that are donated inside? A reminder, please do not leave boxes outside the green bin. Those donations tend to get ruined by mother nature and placed in the trash ending up costing us more.
Printing and Faxing updated Fee information. Faxing at the Library is now free, you will receive a confirmation page. Donations are always welcome. You can print from most cell phones. Fees have increased to 0.25 for black and white and 0.75 for color prints. Please help us with these costs by donating your used printer toner cartridges in the recycle box in the lobby. The rewards points we obtain help reduce the cost of paper, toner and other office supplies.
