It was a week of celebrating milestones in many of our families

PRATTSVILLE – Thank you to our veterans and active military for securing and maintaining Our Country so we can celebrate our 150th Anniversary.

Due to a very busy schedule there will be no Prattsville Scoop for the August 10 publication. Sorry.

It was a week of celebrating milestones in many of our families.

In honor of Peg and Jim Young’s 50th Wedding Anniversary, friends and family met at the home of Jill and Kevin Piccoli, their Matron of Honor and Best Man, to join in this very happy occasion on Saturday, July 25. Their sons officiated at the ceremonies with Jim and Peg renewing their vows. Brian and family from North Carolina and John and family of Prattsville were the Masters of Ceremonies and they made Jim and Peg proud and so happy. The guests were an assorted mix of family and friends and they thoroughly enjoyed each others company. Sad to say much of what was said and done was with the caveat “this is not for The Scoop”. So let your imagination run wild.

One branch of the Brainerd tree met on July 18 for their annual reunion. Included were the families of the late Don, Marjorie, Chuck, Richie and Patty. Marie, Alumna class of ‘57 Gilboa Conesville CS, of Florida is the sole living sibling of this branch of the Brainerd family. But many of the children of the family are still living in our towns and periodically are mentioned in The Scoop.

Sympathy and prayers for the family of Joseph Marsh of Gilboa. Joe grew up in Johnson Hollow, attended Grand Gorge High School, was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and spent his remaining years at home on Route 30. His nephew Tony Marsh and Tony’s sons and grandchildren are part of Joe’s remaining family. Thank you for your service Joe.

Another child has joined the Gurley family. Amanda Vasta and Rob Gurley welcomed daughter Kalieh Grace on July 21. Baby and mother are doing well and are deeply loved. Kalieh gave cousins Arabella Gurley and Lukas Pruyn a most wonderful birthday gift, they being born on that same date in 2019. That is one way of saving on birthday parties. Congratulations Amanda and Rob. Heard there were midnight calls to Aunt Nadine for her RN advice.

Father Cebula has returned to his home and St. Philip and Sacred Heart parish will have Father Paul returning for his regular parish duties on August 1. Thank you Father Joe for your prayers and guidance. A coffee hour was held for him at St. Philip’s after Mass on Sunday, the 26th. Father Joe, you are always welcome “home”.

American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 members Cathy Martion, Marianne Krauss and Ginny Gurley delivered seven cartons and one bag of donated new items to Voluntary Services of Stratton VAMC, Albany. Items were donated by the United Methodist Churches’ Thrift Shop in Hunter, Auxiliary members Sharon Potter, Cathy Martino, Ginny Gurley and Stephanie Braswell. As is the rule of the VA, all items are new. In speaking with Jason Goman, Director, it was learned that items are needed for the Cancer Backpack program of the Voluntary Services. Some of the items can only be supplied under certain health rules but the following can be purchased by or supplied by the general public. Needed are water bottles, sunscreen, winter hats and scarves and warm socks. These items will be put in their back packs to be easily carried from treatment to treatment centers. Reminder: new items only. If there are knitters and crochet mavens out there who would like to knit or crochet hats and scarves and can use assorted gauges of yarn, call 518 299 3219 and a generous supply of same will be provided for you. Delivery will also be made for you if necessary.

The Zadock Pratt Museum Board continues in their quest to keep the Museum a living entity in our town. Work has started on the building across from the Reform Church on Main Street that has served as a store and home in the past. Believe the elderly Becker couple was the last to use that building as a home and the original use of that building housed a store. Stephen and Lisa Birnbaum please correct any misinformation that I am printing here. There will be a Museum presence during Prattsville’s event for the USA 250th Anniversary on August 29. There are also plans being made for the Afternoon Tea in September.

Happy Birthday to Linda Jaeger on August 1. Stan Sutton Jr. is wished a Happy Birthday on August 3. On August 4 we wish Bobby Rion and Miranda Briggs a Happy Birthday. We send Happy Birthday wishes to Jeffery Gonzales of Ashland on August 5. Out in Missouri we wish Sandy Case Hill a very Happy Birthday on August 7. On August 8 we wish that famous Peter O’Brian a Happy Birthday. Michelle Petricini is send Happy Birthday greetings on August 9.Skyler Blain is wished a very Happy Birthday on August 10. Eric Lane is send Happy Birthday greetings on August 11. And finally we send Happy Birthday wishes to Beth Ballard on August 14. Richie and Emily Morse are wished a very Happy Anniversary on August 2. On August 10 we wish Adam and Kelly Brainard a very Happy Anniversary.
