Leavitt Looking Forward to Another Term as Carlisle Supervisor
CARLISLE — After nine years as Supervisor in the Town of Carlisle, Republican John Leavitt is excited about the next two. He's running unopposed for a two-year term.
"I have always had a desire to be part of the community no matter where I lived and feel very fortunate to be the Town Supervisor in Carlisle," wrote Leavitt, a 14-year town resident, in an email to this newspaper.
It's a team effort, he continued.
"I have a great Town Board as well as Planning Board and other support staff," Leavitt stated. "Our highway department is one of the best and I look forward to working with them. The volunteers of the Carlisle Fire Department also make our community a much safer place. They all make my job as the Town Supervisor much easier and Carlisle an enjoyable place to live and work."
He has some goals for the next two-year term.
"There are a couple of projects that we continue to work on within the Town, one being the dangerous intersection of Lykers Road and Route 20," Leavitt wrote. "This has been the site of numerous accidents and we have continuously asked the state to make some needed safety corrections to that intersection.
"The large solar project in Carlisle and Seward is also still a major concern. This has been a battle for the past five years and although the state has granted them the permit, there are many issues that are still pending that need to be settled."
Leavitt added "I really look forward to serving as Town Supervisor for the next two years and being a part of our (Schoharie) County government on the Board of Supervisors."
Also on the Carlisle ballot are two more uncontested races. Town Clerk-Tax Collector Stacy Bruyette and Town Highway Superintendent Mike Broadwell are both running for two-year terms. Also up for election is the position of Town Justice.
