Out Lexington Way is a popular, weekly hyper-local community column written by columnist and contributor Christine Dwon
The rain stopped in time for the annual Memorial Day ceremony that was held at the West Kill/Lexington Community Hall in West Kill on May 25. Messages and prayers were given by Pastor Mark Hamann and poems read by JoEllen Schermerhorn. The traditional serving of ice cream was provided by the Lexington Fire Company following the moving and respectful service. Thank you to all who came and thank you to all we remember and honor. Freedom is not free.
Learn the history of beekeeping in New York and learn to become a beekeeper at a presentation at the Town of Lexington Historical Society, 18 Church Street, Lexington on Saturday, May 30, 2 p.m. for Beekeeping 101. Observe bees at work in an exhibition hive.
Sunday, May 31 at 10 a.m. there will be a combined worship service of the Mountain Top Parish UMC churches at the Lexington Municipal Building under the pavilion. A covered dish lunch will follow the service. All welcomed.

Lexington/West Kill UMC Administrative Council will meet Wednesday, June 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the Lexington church hall.
Saturday, June 6 is the next Lexington Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. under the pavilion at the Lexington Municipal Building, 3542 Route 42, Lexington.
The annual Chicken BBQ sponsored by the West Kill Lexington Community Improvement Association will be held Saturday, June 6 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with takeouts only. Orders will be packed for takeout and if you wish, you are invited to use the dining hall to sit and eat together with friends. Dinners are $18 and include half chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, pasta salad, brownie. A chicken half only is $12. There will also be Stewart’s ice cream.
Town of Lexington Fire/Rescue Company Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. in the Firemen’s Room.
There will be a Yard Sale at the West Kill/Lexington Community Hall, 141 Spruceton Road, West Kill, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. You may sign up for your table by emailing friendsoflexington@gmail.com or at the Lexington Farmers Market raffle table. BYOTable for an outside spot is $10 and $20 for an indoor spot table included. Proceeds benefit WKLCIA.
The Kaaterskill UMC free will offering Annual Roast Beef and Strawberry Church Supper is Tuesday, June 16 at the Tannersville Rescue Squad Building. Sit down dinners are back. Dinner seating is 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and takeouts are 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The 28th Annual Father’s Day Cruisin’ on the Mountain Top Car Show with antique and classic vehicles, is Sunday, June 21 at 10 a.m., Tannersville Historic District.
The Hunter Public Library, 7965 Main Street, Hunter, now has children’s books in Braille and other materials. Also, if you want to learn how to play Pickle Ball, borrow paddles and balls and give it a try.
The Greene County Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of June 1 – June 5 is as follows: Monday—Macaroni and cheese, three-bean salad, roasted asparagus, tropical fruit; Tuesday—Sloppy Joes (hamburger bun has gluten), Caribbean blend vegetables, white rice, fruited Jell-O; Wednesday—Tortellini with meatball, Italian mixed vegetables, Chocolate Mousse with whipped topping; Thursday—Pork chop with gravy and applesauce, mashed sweet potatoes, Capri vegetable mix, fresh fruit; Friday—Chicken and biscuits with gravy, California vegetable mix, mashed potatoes, fresh fruit. All persons 60 and older are invited to attend. Meals served at noon, suggested $4 donation for each meal. Congregate reservations are required by noon at least a day in advance. If you reserve a meal and are unable to attend, please call as soon as you can to cancel.
