R&D Excavating Claims Prattsville Softball League Championship
PRATTSVILLE — R&D Excavating capped off the 2026 Prattsville Softball League playoffs with a championship victory after a busy slate of games that included shutouts, rallies and a rematch with the BHI Goonies.
In Game 7, the Dingers eliminated Smokin' Bases with a decisive 9-0 victory.
As the league's Facebook commentary put it, the Dingers recorded the first hit and first runs before Smokin' Bases were "smoked for good."
Game 8 featured Bob's Home Improvement, also known as the BHI Goonies, against first-place R&D Excavating.
R&D controlled much of the game and defeated BHI 16-6, despite a strong rally by the Goonies in the top of the sixth inning.
As the playoffs continued, tensions occasionally rose among players and supporters. Discussions and disagreements centered on the league's pinch-runner rule, the "Toilet Bowl" losers' bracket game and how the remainder of the playoff schedule would unfold.
There appeared to be considerably less disagreement over the concession stand, where the food continued to draw customers throughout the day.
Game 9 gave the BHI Goonies another opportunity to remain alive in the tournament. BHI rebounded from its earlier loss by shutting out the Dingers 11-0, earning another opportunity to face R&D for the league championship.
The Goonies entered Game 10 hoping to unseat R&D as the league's top team.
BHI mounted a rally and several Goonies players put together strong performances, giving their supporters hope of a comeback. R&D, however, relied on its home-run hitting to take control of the game.
R&D defeated BHI 16-6 in the championship game, bringing the 2026 Prattsville Softball League playoffs to a close with R&D Excavating as league champion.
