Summer Maintenance Blitz Boosts Learning Opportunities for BOCES Students
ALBANY/SCHOHARIE -- Maintenance and custodial staff at Capital Region BOCES have been hard at work preparing five school buildings and additional classroom and administrative space for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
Facilities Director Kevin Sharpe said the focus of the effort has been waxing, stripping and painting the classrooms and common areas that will be the educational homes for more than 2,000 students starting in September.
Additional efforts have been made to prepare for the expansion of programs at the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Extension Center in Albany and the launch of new Emergency Medical Technician programs on the Schoharie and Albany CTE campuses.
All of the work has taken place while students attended special education programming at the Airline Drive and Maywood academies and the Cosmetology Summer Program on the CTE campuses.
“Our staff has done a tremendous job making sure everything will be ready for Sept. 10,” Sharpe said.
