Werner Rentsch Artist Tribute
We will have a display of paintings by Werner Rentsch of rural scenes around Jefferson created several decades ago.
Werner Rentsch, a noted painter who lived in Jefferson, passed away last November. Decades ago, he created many paintings depicting rural scenes around Jefferson and the surrounding area. Over time, he gained widespread recognition for his equestrian art, particularly works featuring horse racing, show jumping, foxhunting, and polo. His son’s wildlife work in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania also inspired Werner to create paintings of many African species. Throughout his career, his work was featured in numerous solo exhibitions, museum shows, and galleries.
Werner and his wife, Gail, were active members of the Jefferson Historical Society Board. In addition to his artistic contributions, Werner helped with the planting of trees on the Jefferson Town Green, assisted with the Society’s art shows, and generously contributed many hours of volunteer service to the organization.
A few years ago, Werner donated his collection of more than 20 paintings of Jefferson to the Jefferson Historical Society. In tribute to his life and work, the Society will display the collection during Memorial Day weekend.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, May 22, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The exhibition will continue on Saturday, May 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 24, from noon to 4:00 p.m. All events will take place in Judd Hall, 163 Main Street, Jefferson, and are free and open to the public. The Jefferson Historical Society Museum will also be open during these hours.
