When you're planning an outdoor event, one thing is always out of your control—the weather. After spending over six months organizing every detail of Nathan's Ride, the members of Red Barn Riders RC were watching the forecast with crossed fingers. As the week went on, the prediction changed from rain to bright sunshine, and you could almost hear the sigh of relief from everyone involved. It was going to be a perfect day to ride for a great cause.
Red Barn Riders RC is a 501(c)(3) charitable motorcycle riding club made up of people who believe that motorcycles can bring communities together. Throughout the year they organize charity events, support other local fundraisers, and are always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it's needed.
Their biggest event each year is Nathan's Ride, a fundraiser dedicated to helping Nathan, a remarkable local young man with special needs. For the past eight years, riders from across the region have gathered at the Greenville Town Park, where the ride both begins and ends. For a $20 donation, participants enjoy an unforgettable day, and the first 100 riders receive one of the event's always-popular commemorative run shirts.
Then it's kickstands up as everyone heads out to enjoy some of the most scenic roads the Catskill Mountains have to offer.
When the riders returned, the fun was far from over. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic meal prepared by La Conca Doro in Catskill while spending time with friends old and new. The afternoon also featured music from DJ LJ James, exciting raffles, motorcycle games, and plenty of laughter. It was another reminder that these events are about much more than motorcycles—they're about bringing people together to help someone in need.
One of the most touching moments of the day came when Nathan, who was named an honorary member of the Red Barn Riders RC last year, was presented with a special trophy in recognition of the inspiration he has become to the club and the community by Red Barn Riders RC President Bill Hillicoss.
The Red Barn Riders RC continues to prove that a group of caring bikers can make an incredible difference. Their members ride with heart, volunteer countless hours, and show that compassion is the strongest thing anyone can wear.
So the next time you see the Red Barn Riders rolling through town, give them a wave. Better yet, stop by one of their events. You don't need to own a motorcycle to join the fun—everyone is always welcome. To learn more about upcoming events, visit RedBarnRiders.org.
Till next time, I am your bro, LJ James, and I'll see you Around the Mountain!
