Color Run a Success in Schoharie Despite Rain

SCHOHARIE — Elementary Parent Teacher Student Organization (EPTSO) of Schoharie held its second annual Color Run on the school grounds this past Sunday. The weather was in stark contrast to last year’s event. Sunshine and summer heat replaced the cold rain that last year’s participants endured. The families gathered around craft tables and collected their t-shirts, bandanas, sunglasses, and color pouches for the race as they waited for the run to begin. Based on the conversations, many families were returning—2025’s cold rain couldn’t stop the fun. EPTSO provided snacks and water as well, so everyone was hydrated and ready to run.

The run started promptly at 11:00am, amid a rainbow cloud, as everyone tossed the contents of their color packets into the air. Volunteers stationed around the race course color-bombed runners as they passed their tables. As the runners approached the finish line, a Schoharie Fire Department’s John Borst sprayed water across the parking lot as music played from a nearby speaker, turning Schoharie school’s parking lot into a colorful, wet, mini-dance party as (mainly) kids ran back and forth under the firehose’s spray. By comparison, last year, no one wanted to run through water; they already had!

Every runner was also rewarded with one free snow cone from a nearby Kona truck. The most popular flavor among students seemed to have been all of the flavors combined. While the crowd may have been on the smaller side, it seemed like everyone who went last year returned, so perhaps the nicer weather and word of mouth will help generate bigger numbers should EPTSO bring the Color Run back for a third year.
