GALLUPVILLE — Work has begun on the Gallupville House Association’s ambitious Community Park project. Trees to the north of the historic building have been cut down in anticipation of the planned expansion of the parking area to the top of the hill next to the present lot, which is scheduled to begin construction this year. The new parking lot is phase one of a transformative plan that ultimately includes a playground, sustainable native plants, walkways, and an amphitheater. “I am excited to see progress,” says GHA President Scott Hadam. You can see more about the project, including design images and descriptions, on the Gallupville House website. In addition to the radical outdoor transformation, the Gallupville House itself will continue to be renovated and maintained. Needless to say, the GHA has its hands full.
Events at the Gallupville House will continue throughout all of the changes without any anticipated disruption. On May 31, popular local band The Red Wagon will be playing a fundraiser for the venue. The four-piece has been hard at work on a new album of story songs, including at least one with specific ties to Wright. In other Gallupville news, the Gallupville Fire Department held its monthly breakfast in April. The Hawaiian-themed event was a success, with a good turnout, and even led to inquiries about joining the volunteer department. Anyone interested in joining can stop in at the firehouse on Monday evenings.
