Get To Know Your 30th Annual Festival Farmers Market Vendors: Pig Out Cobleskill

Pig Out Cobleskill is family-owned by Angela Clapper, her husband Jeremy, and sons Dalton and Larson.

COBLESKILL- This is the 30th year the Festival Farmers Market will be welcoming you to experience their vast and unique selection at The Gathering Place from July - October. Leading up to the beginning of their season, The Mountain Eagle has been lucky enough to get to interview the smiling faces you will see there so we can introduce you to them!

This week’s interview is with another of our very own Mountain Eagle Reporters, Angela Clapper, who opened Pig Out Cobleskill on April 8th of 2024 after participating in a fundraiser for her son’s Lil Dawgs football team. “I raised 1k in 3 weeks. He raised the most money ever. After, people wanted me to keep baking, so I applied for my cottage license. My kids opened my eyes to this. My husband is my biggest supporter. My grandma's Spirit inspires me,” shared Clapper.

In addition to the support, Clapper’s family (husband and high school sweetheart Jeremy and sons Dalton and Larson), also enjoy sampling the deserts and helping out with vending at events. “My favorite thing about what I do,” said Clapper, “Is being able to be a stay at home mom. Doing events with my family.”

Clapper looks for recipes to bake and package, and events to offer her products at. Their  products include large, small, & individual cakes, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, bread, sourdough bagels, chocolate jumbos, muffins, Adopt A Pig stuffed animals with adoption certificates, and more. Everything is made from scratch and from ingredients that Clapper grows or sources personally, and every work day is different depending on a week’s schedule of events. Pig Out Cobleskill offers bake-to-order options, which Clapper explained means she could have zero baking to do one day, to a twelve-hour day of baking the next, and, “I love that not every day is the same.” Clapper also loves that their organization is unique because of the family unit behind it, “We do everything together. We homeschool our kids, live on a farm, and give back as much as we can.” Clapper and Jeremy were born and raised in this area and chose to continue to raise their kids here and are Pro Ed chairs for The Farm Bureau, Wheels for the Community Board members, helpers for CPI and CRCS FFA Alumni, and Seward Farmer's and Artisans Market committee members. “My favorite memory,” began Clapper, “Is the backpack giveaway; Seward  Farmers and Artisans Market had bookbags available, so we gave them out here.”

This will mark the 3rd season Pig Out Cobleskill committed to vending at Festival Farmers Market. Clapper discussed, “I love the Market because I get to see my summer family, the other vendors. I meet so many community members and chat with them.” Clapper added, I love to buy my produce here, so large compared to the store. Erin's (Will-A-Way Farm) meat sticks are the best. You support a family's dream. You support them to help them take care of their family.  You as a customer matter more to us than you will ever know.”

Clapper considers her greatest achievements as the moments when people come back and say her desert triggered a memory of something they loved that was once made by someone they loved. Clapper herself shared how much she misses her grandmother every day and she prides herself on making her grandmother’s chocolate jumbos from her favorite recipe that’s in her grandmother’s handwriting.

New this season, Clapper has partnered with her husband to offer kettlecorn and lemonade through Pig Out Cobleskill. They will be at Seward Farmers and Artisans Market, Memorial Ride for Jeffery, the 4th of July Cobleskill celebration, Middlefield Flea Market, Middlefield Heritage Days, Roseboom Power Days, 4th Friday in Middleburg, The Thrifty Bride, and The Broken Spoke.

On Facebook, join their Pig Out Cobleskill group. “Local mama turned homesteader and homeschooler wants to spread love in the community with baked goods.” And you can place your bake-to-order by calling 518-337-3722.

As weeks lead up to the official Festival Farmers Market season at The Gathering Place (127 Kenyon Road, Cobleskill) running every Saturday July 11- October 24 from 10 AM - 2 PM, we will continue spotlighting one vendor per week. So, keep your eyes peeled for next week’s Get To Know Your 30th Annual Festival Farmers Market Vendors headliner, and follow vendors online if you missed our previous feature (of Van-Dale-Farms).
