We sure could use about two days of a nice gentle soaking rain. This past weekend a couple of brief showers came up through the valley. At least we did not get the severe thunderstorms like what happened in Vermont. This week it is supposed to get very warm. I just hope the humidity remains low. Monday morning while heading out to the mailbox I could not help to notice the bright yellow pollen that was on the blacktop driveway. Then looking down at the lake it to was covered in yellow. Anyone with allergies I am sure had a few problems with the pollen over the weekend. I had decided not to mow as I thought it better to give the lawn a chance to grow a bit more as some spots looked brown. I am happy I did not mow as with just those couple of short showers Monday morning I noticed the grass had sprung up enough to get it done this coming Friday.
Saturday afternoon twenty-five people attended the Gilboa Museum event where Tony Robbins spoke on Patterns in art, architecture, anatomy, and mathematics. Tony presented a lovely slide show. While viewing a pattern on the screen it seemed like your eyes could catch so many different changing patterns just on one slide. It was like looking at a three D design. Patterns on quilts, structures and so much more were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. During this presentation Reed Shultes was holding a first-time garage sale in the red shed on the grounds of the museum. All sales go to benefit the museum. Be sure to check out all the events in and around Gilboa/Conesville area at the bottom of the column. Refreshments followed the event.
Heard from the DiRubba’ s in Weeki Wachee this past week. Rosemary tells me Lou mows with his Zero turn while she works in the flower beds, does weed whacking and trimming trees with her little Ryobi chain saw. Rosemary tells me she just loves working on the property with her dogs doing the supervising. She also tells me her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, her husband and two girls are moving to Bluffton, SC this summer. They are about five hours away and both Rosemary and Lou are ever so thrilled as this is the last of the family from NY. Even though both Lou and Rosemary are living in FL. They still miss the mountains and valleys of Schoharie County. Thanks to both of you for keeping in touch via e-mail.
All three of us gals, Linda, Alicia, and myself are getting very excited about our Annual Fourth of July Parade here in Flat Creek. Lineup will take place at the Flat Creek Church 11:30am with “kick off” at 12:00noon. If anyone is interested in joining in this parade, please let us know: FlatcreekParadeGilboaNY@outlook.com
Several have already signed up. After the parade and back at the Flat Creek Church with Pastor Paul at the grill, will once again be serving free hot dogs, chips and water. Come on out and join us in this yearly memorable parade in loving memory of William Terry who as a little boy wanted a parade in Flat Creek. We continue to honor that wish. Bring a chair and sit along the parade route. I am sure you will have a great time.
Ten people from the Conesville Historical Society met at the Riedl home on Saturday morning. Al Martel, who is retired from DEC led an engaging walk through the woods teaching everyone about different species of plants and trees. He pointed out wildlife and evidence of wildlife’s presence. Then there was a discussion on how forests change over time. It was an enjoyable walk and talk with many thanks to the Riedl’s for lending their property for such a nice outdoor adventure.
The Gilboa Town board began their Monday evening meeting following the Flag salute and roll call led by Supervisor Alicia Terry at 6:30pm. I am happy to let all our Gilboa residents know that repair work is beginning once again on the closed area of Flat Creek Road. We are thankful for that. As the work progresses, we need to be patient as the County and Town highway departments work diligently together to get this area repaired and reopened. Bids were opened and awarded regarding the sale of the Forks in the Road Schoolhouse with another bid for Patching, Sealing and Striping the parking lot in front of the Town Hall and Post Office. All other business that came before the board was taken care of as well. Minutes of meetings can be found on the Schoharie County website.
