GILBOA – A report on a successful summer camp and routine business made for a light agenda at the Gilboa Town Board meeting on Monday.
Board members increased the town's official mileage reimbursement to 76 cents per mile to match the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reimbursement rate. No one spoke during the privilege of the floor.
Fiona Marshal provided a written report as the town's summer youth coordinator She said the summer camp at Mine Kill State Park ran from July 6-31 with 17 Gilboa participants, five riding the bus each day. She praised the Schoharie County Youth Bureau and Cornell Cooperative Extension for collaborating and providing programs that gave the kids a break from the pool. She said it was a pleasure to be involved and she reported she is interested in continuing as the coordinator again next year. She said the program was not held five times due to rain and poor air quality due to the Canadian fires.
Highway Superintendent John Wyckoff reported that the new truck is being built, they replaced the culvert on BeckEr Road, and they will have to maintain the gutters at the highway garage to keep them clear from leaves. The recent heavy rain caused it to overtop the gutters.
In her report, Supervisor Alicia Terry said recent ribbon cuttings, one to open the overlook at the Gilboa Dam, the new historic marker at the town hall, marking the site of the new Gilboa and the reopening of the boat launch and repairs to the kiddie pool at Mine Kill State Park. The park will be the site of the upcoming Wildlife Festival as renovations begin at the NYPA Visitors Center.
She also reported the NYC DEP provided community outreach with its precinct serving as the command post for last Sunday's manhunt for a murder suspect in Gilboa. The man was apprehended, following tips from local residents after his car was found parked in the church parking lot. Thankfully no one was injured and the suspect was apprehended.
She also said that Gilboa residents will not be affected by the franchise cost for Middleburgh Telephone which is adding a monthly franchise fee. She said the project to install broadband will also continue, with additional funding provided to bypass Verizon lines. The town of Gilboa, she said, does not charge a franchise fee.
