ROXBURY — There will be a community worship service on August 30 at 9:30 a.m. in the historic Old School Baptist building on Stratton Falls Road in Roxbury. The service will be led by members of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church, the Prattsville Reformed Church, and the Roxbury United Methodist Church.
The 1832 meeting house retains much of its original character with simple pews and plank floors. It does not have heat or electricity, which means that worshipers will need to dress according to the weather. Worshipers are encouraged to bring pads or cushions to sit on since the old pew cushions will not be used. The hymns will reflect the type of music sung in its heyday, usually without accompaniment because they did not allow instruments as part of the service.
Rev. Richard Dykstra from the Gould Church and Pastor Dottie Morris will lead the service and the Gould Church Choir will participate with an anthem. We will receive an offering for community needs.
We appreciate the support of the Old School Baptist Church Trustees (Anthony Liberatore, Karen Underwood, Burr Hubbell, and Eric Winchell) who invite us to hold this annual service. The church will be open after the service for people who want to see the building’s interior.
