SEWARD — The regular May meeting for The Seward Town Board was held on May 11, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting  was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and included discussion about the sewer district and planning board.

There was a consideration of meeting minutes  from April 9, April 13, and April 24. Written and oral reports were given. The board approved the reports  from the Supervisor,  Highway Superintendent,  and Town Clerk. The board also approved the Assessor and Dog Control Officer.  There was not a report to approve from Code Enforcement.

Councilwoman Wendy Rosa discussed grants and RFP. Rosa spoke of getting  an assessment from Energy Solutions. Energy Solutions would look at the current lighting the town building has, do all necessary paperwork. This whole process would be very little to zero cost. This was just finished with local fairgrounds.

There was a movement for a trailer to move the lawn mower. There is a new court clerk at the town, Debbie Falcone. The pay will be $102.00 a month.

There was a letter received from Jessica Sharp in regards to the sewer district.  The sewer was permitted in 2019. The original  permit ammonia content has changed. Sharp is requesting the town pay the discounted rate of $20,000, by May 22.  The original was around $103,000.  Sharp suggested a possible payment plan. The houses this serves in the town, is about a 1 million dollar fix. Supervisor Fletcher spoke with Mylan Jackson, an engineer from Lamont.  He has drafted a letter in response to Sharp. The town voted to send the drafted letter to Sharp. Supervisor Fletcher will also seek out lawyers to help with advisement.

The board would like to inform the town that there are still two open positions on the Planning Board. One seat will end on 12/31/2028; the other will end on 12/31/2030. There is also an open seat on the Board of Assessment.  If you would like to fill an available  spot, please reach out to Supervisor Fletcher.

Our new truck should be here next week. The board voted to pay for the remaining balance of the truck by left will not be paid for by a bond. It will be paid for with left over chip money and maintenance fund.

One member of the community asked the board to look into the safety around him. It is not being used for how it is zoned. He also brought up health issues. The board said they would reach out to Code Enforcement. The board also suggested the town member reach out to The Board of Health.  The board ended the meeting and went to auditing bills.
