Prattsville – Memorial Day is this Monday, May 25. We honor and thank our veterans who are no longer with us for their honorable duty to our nation. Memorial Day is dedicated to them. We are privileged to be able to say “Thank You for your service” for those veterans and active military who are members of our families and our communities.

The American Legion Virgil E. Deyo Post 1327 will be hosting the annual Memorial Day Parade in Prattsville on Monday, May 25. You are asked to be at Maple Lane, Sewer Plant, at 12:30 PM for lineup and step off will be at 1 PM. The parade will end at the Prattsville Town Green to be followed by the respectful ceremonies for deceased veterans. You are asked to participate in the parade and attend the ceremony on the Green. Support all the veterans’ causes by contributing to the American Legion Auxiliary’s Poppy Program. The members will be at Jim’s Great American, as well as the donation cans being at businesses around town and at our neighboring towns’ business and public places.

Plan on stopping by the Zadock Pratt Museum to view the exhibit of our local veterans or veterans with local connection. You will be amazed by what your family members and neighbors have done to keep our lives and liberties safe and secure for us and future generations. Thank you to Stephen Birnbaum for being Chairman of this project and, of course, aided by his talented and able bodied wife Lisa. Thank you to all committee members and to the Zadock Pratt Museum members on behalf of our veterans.

Good to see Connie Ruele out and about after her bone fracture episode. She looks great so her recovery must be complete and satisfactory. Connie, may all good things come your way. Connie is a veteran’s widow and a retired nurse from the VAMC in Castle Point, NY. We thank them both for their service.

Feel better wishes go out to Roxie Mudge. She is suffering from a late spring cold.

Notice that Teddy Huggins has his homemade wooden lawn furniture and other outdoor items out for sale at his home on Route 23 in the Clay Hill area. Stop by. The items are worth the visit and you can probably find a use for one of them. Plus you can’t go wrong with spending some time with Sharon and Teddy. Conversations with them are worth the visit.

The old Apy homestead is still up on piers. Isn’t modern engineering awe inspiring? Good luck homeowners. Another home in Prattsville is up for sale. The Aurigema homestead on Main Street has a “For Sale” sign on its lawn. This house is located across from the Beckers’ Boarding House from long ago.

Welcoming spring in the most green way are RSK Farms. Not sure of Sandy participation but Bob and crew are putting in those agricultural hours. The land, and very rich land it is, has been tilled and electrical fences are in perfect order to fend off local pests, namely squirrels, woodchucks, skunks, raccoons, deer, possums, and the ever present aphids, Japanese beetles, et al. And then the bears. Deer are currently putting in appearances but nothing is in the gardens yet ready for dibbling. Once that starts, plants are then decimated. Four deer and two woodchucks are surveying the plantings for summer dinners.

Tom and Jackie Briggs were enjoying dinner at the Brandywine recently with friends.

On May 26 we wish David Lane a Happy Birthday. David is the son of Jane and John Lane. On May 27, we can wish Jim Dymond a very Happy Birthday. Steve Baker is sent Happy Birthday wishes on May 29. To all, have a very pleasant and love filled day.
