UPSTATE NEW YORK — Several key state and federal offices were up for primary nomination battles on Tuesday. The major parties nominated a number of candidates for the November general election.
In the NY-19 Congressional race, with about half of the results in, current State Sen. Peter Oberacker received about 77% of the vote to Alex Portelli's 22% for the Republican nomination. In the key State Senate District 51 race, Chris Tague was leading Terry Bernardo with 54% to 46% for the Republican nomination. Janet Tweed won the Democratic nomination for Assembly District 102, currently held by Tague. Tweed won 46.4% to Thomas Boomhower's 27.9% and Mary Finneran's 25.6%. Former Congressman Marc Molinaro secured the Republican nomination for the seat.
“I’m honored that Democratic primary voters have chosen me to represent them on the ballot this fall. Across the political spectrum, people are tired of career politicians whose decisions primarily benefit their own careers and the narrow interests of their wealthiest donors. That’s why, unlike Marc Molinaro, I have never and will never accept money from corporate PACs. With over 20 years as a practicing physical therapist, and over 8 years on local municipal boards, I have the experience necessary to make real, positive change in the Assembly,” said Tweed.
