Windham Celebrates America's 250th Anniversary with a Weekend of Patriotism, Community, and Catskills Tradition

WINDHAM — In 2026, America marks a historic milestone—its 250th Anniversary. To honor this once-in-a-generation occasion, the Windham Chamber of Commerce, Community of Windham Foundation, and Town of Windham invite residents and visitors alike to join in a special weekend-long celebration of independence, community spirit, and hometown traditions.

Under the theme "250 Years of American Independence — Celebrated the Windham Way!", Windham's July 4th Celebration promises a memorable weekend filled with live music, family activities, local food, community gatherings, a parade, and a spectacular fireworks finale over Windham Mountain Club.

"America's 250th Anniversary gives us a unique opportunity to reflect on our nation's history while celebrating the community values that continue to bring us together," said Lisa Jaeger, Chair of the Windham Chamber of Commerce. "We wanted to create a celebration that honors our past, celebrates our present, and showcases everything that makes Windham such a special place to live, work, and visit."

Festivities begin on Friday, July 3, with a free concert at CD Lane Park featuring crowd favorite Flirtin' with Disaster, along with BBQ by the Hensonville Fire Department. Christman's Windham House will also host an evening BBQ and fireworks celebration beginning at 5:00 PM.

On Saturday, July 4, families can kick off the day at the beloved Annual Sand Castle Contest at CD Lane Park 11:00 am before enjoying the Omny Taiko Japanese Drum Concert at Centre Church at 2:00 pm. Throughout the day, visitors can explore Windham's Farmers Market on Main Street featuring fresh produce, local foods, artisan crafts, homemade baked goods, live music, and community vendors.  Main Street shops and restaurants will have in store specials and speciality drinks.

A highlight of this year's celebration is the Giant Balloon Experience, a new interactive attraction taking place from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Centre Church. Community members are invited to help build a massive 10-foot by 19-foot Balloon American Flag, watch the creation take shape, and capture a patriotic red, white, and blue selfie. Blow up pumps will be available.

Beginning at 4:00 PM, Church Street and Centre Church front lawn transforms into a festive pedestrian-friendly celebration zone featuring food trucks, lawn games, temporary tattoos, face painting, and appearances by a towering Uncle Sam stilt walker. Live music by Peter and the Wolves and an evening performance by DJ Mike and his Laser Show will keep the celebration going into the evening.

At 7:00 PM, the community will gather for the Independence Day Parade, presented by Windham Hose Company #1. All floats are welcome, and participants are encouraged to showcase their patriotic pride as the parade steps off from Route 296 and South Street before concluding at the Windham Fire Department.

The celebration culminates with one of Windham's most cherished traditions—a spectacular Fireworks Finale over Windham Mountain Club. As fireworks illuminate the Catskill sky, residents and visitors alike will gather to celebrate 250 years of American independence and the enduring spirit of small-town America.

The Windham July 4th Celebration is made possible through the partnership and support of the Windham Chamber of Commerce, Community of Windham Foundation, and the Town of Windham

All events are family-friendly, and many are free to attend.
