Angel's Attic - A Hobart Thrift Store

180 Maple Ave, Hobart, NY 13788 | Wesley House of the United Methodist Church | Thursday 10 am – 3 pm | Saturday 10 am – 2 pm | Spring until 2nd week of December

Hobart is known at the Book Village of the Catskills, but it also has a thrift store. Run by women from the United Women of Faith group, and located at 180 Maple Ave, in the Wesley House of the United Methodist Church, it provides a wide variety of items.

Angel’s Attic began in 2015 when Cathy Rappleya and Dorothy Wetmore, both longtime residents of Hobart decided that there should be a thrift store to provide inexpensive items for people in the town. Wesley House was currently unoccupied, although it had been used and donated for a variety of purposes, such as the local Red Cross office, over the years. Members of the town donated their time to set up the rooms and shelving for the store. Church and town members cleaned out their closets and the thrift store in Plattsville donated their items when their store closed.

The store has a wide variety of items to sell, from baby, child, and adult clothing to houseware and kitchen items, holiday and house decorations, jewelry, books, baby supplies, toys, and small furniture. As Dorothy Wetmore, one of the founders said, “We wanted to create a mini-department store, so every room has a theme for easier browsing.” Unfortunately, because of its small size the store does not carry large furniture or electronics, but all other items are welcome for donation.

But Angel’s Attic has a greater purpose than just selling used goods. All of the proceeds are used by The United Women of Faith to fund local charities for women, children and families, such as our local food banks, the Christmas Feeling Fund and the Children’s Home in Binghamton, which has a presence in Delaware County with its programs. Angel’s Attic has also opened their doors to people who have a need for supplies after natural disasters, like home fires, or are in need of emergency supplies for their families at no charge. “We were able to supply baby and children’s items for a grandmother one year,” said Ms. Wetmore. “She needed the items right away and we were fortunate to be able to give them to her.”

The store is open on Thursday from 10 am – 3 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm, from spring until the second week of December. Donations can be taken during the hours they are open. So come down and see what Angel’s Attic has to offer and you might leave with a treasure.
