The meaning of Memorial Day
The meaning of Memorial Day was shared at the Prattsville Veterans Monument by (left) Virgil E. Deyo American Legion Post #1327 commander Chris Tompkins (right) and Greene County assistant district attorney Jeff Low. “We are here to honor 250 years of fallen heroes,” Tompkins said, opening the ceremony, with Low emphasizing “freedom is not free.”

Prattsville Hose Company was the hometown fire department, joined by volunteers from across the mountaintop, marching to music played by the Gilboa-Conesville school band.

Virgil E. Deyo American Legion Post #1327 and Auxiliary members, the perennial hosts for the annual Prattsville Memorial Day parade, gathered for the event, on May 25, a sunny day after a weekend of rain. They were joined by wagoneer Charleigh Carr, the 2-year old great granddaughter of onetime Post commander Arnold Jaeger.
