Friday Night Lights! Fonda Fultonville traveled to Schoharie for a game under the lights. For the first 15 minutes, both teams battled with Schoharie maintaining the majority of possession, but the Valley Hawks stood strong. RJ Smith then beat a defender at the top of the box and scored first for the Storm. Both teams continued to battle but no further scoring in the half.
With the slimmest of margins, Schoharie tried to score again, but the Fonda defense would not yield, and when the shots did get through, GK John Hunt was up to the challenge. He would finish with 11 saves, including several incredible saves to keep the Hawks in the game. Andy Domingo, would equalize with a penalty kick after a handball in the Schoharie box. Tied at 1-1, both teams found energy and played very well. It was again RJ Smith, who dribbled across the box and placed a shot that beat the goalkeeper to take a 2-1 lead. Fonda continued to press, but the Schoharie defense would not yield.
Then with three minutes to go, Schoharie would earn the insurance goal when Caleb Cain used speed to beat the defense and played a ball across to Ben Borst who found the back of the net. Final score 3-1 Schoharie victory. Corners were 8-5 in favor of Schoharie in a great game by both teams. Special thanks to Prince Knight for the information.
