CAIRO — As much as I hate to admit it, we're starting to see the calendar remind us that another Catskill summer is slowly slipping by. I know... don't say it, LJ. None of us wants to hear those words.
Maybe that's exactly why these last weeks of summer matter the most.
Summer in the Catskill Mountains is special, it's why so many come from all over to enjoy it. It isn't measured by dates on a calendar. It's measured by campfires that burn a little later than they should, motorcycles winding through mountain roads, kids laughing until the streetlights come on, afternoons at the lake, family cookouts, county fairs, lazy evenings on the porch, and those perfect days that somehow seem to go by too fast and last forever, all at the same time.
If you live around here, you know the feeling. Summers aren't just a season—they are a collection of memories. They become the stories we tell, to help get us through the cold winter months.
So before the leaves begin to change, let's promise ourselves that we will go on that adventure we've been putting off. Spend the day at Zoom Flume with the kids. Visit a local campground or resort. Wander through one of our beautiful little towns. Swim in a lake or creek. Watch a sunset over the mountains. Slow down long enough to appreciate just how lucky we are to call this place home.
And no matter what adventure you choose... Lets remember, every truly great summer day should end with ice cream.
Around here, there are plenty of wonderful places to satisfy your sweet tooth, but one place always seems to capture that magical feeling of summer just a little better. 2 Twisted Ladies, located at 618 Main Street in Cairo, it isn't just an ice cream shop—it's an experience.
Before you even walk through the door, the colorful building catches your eye and sparks your imagination. Kids light up the moment they see it, and adults can't help but smile because it reminds them of the places they loved growing up.
Then you step inside. Suddenly, it feels like you've wandered into the pages of a storybook. The charming old-fashioned malt shop atmosphere instantly transports you back to a simpler time, when the biggest decision you had to make was whether to get chocolate or vanilla... and then ended up getting both.
Whether you're craving soft serve, hard ice cream, towering sundaes, creamy milkshakes, banana splits, ice cream floats, or one of their incredibly popular mocktails, there's something waiting to make your day just a little sweeter.
But the real magic of 2 Twisted Ladies isn't found on the menu.
It's found behind the counter.
Owner Sandi and her incredible staff have created something that's becoming harder and harder to find these days. They greet everyone with genuine smiles, treat customers like old friends, and make every visit feel personal. Their kindness, warmth, and hometown hospitality are every bit as magical as the ice cream itself.
You've probably seen them at community events throughout the summer. Just look for the longest line—you'll usually find them there. But as wonderful as those events are, nothing compares to visiting the shop itself and soaking in all the charm that makes it so special.
Places like this don't just sell ice cream.
They become part of our memories.
Years from now, long after this summer has passed, someone will mention 2 Twisted Ladies, and you'll remember that day that ended there, the family outing, the laughter with friends, or the sticky-faced grandkids proudly showing off their ice-cream faces.
That's what summer is really about.
It's not the calendar. It's the moments.
And around here, we're incredibly fortunate to have places like 2 Twisted Ladies that help turn ordinary days into lifelong memories.
So before summer quietly slips away, take one more drive through the Catskills. Make one more memory. Watch one more sunset.
And finish the day the way every perfect summer day should end...
...with an ice cream in your hand and a smile on your face!
PS: No matter what anyone says, nothing is cooler than Rainbow Sprinkles!
