A DONKEY'S QUEER FRIENDS, as Found in the July 22, 1888 Brooklyn Eagle
"At Onteora, the new cottage settlement near here, in the Catskill Mountains, is a little inn known as 'The Bear and Fox', where donkeys are kept for the children of the guests and cottagers. One of the donkeys has struck up quite a remarkable friendship with two tame crows, which are kept at the inn, and is never so happy as when he is promenading with these sable birds perched upon his back, and they apparently thoroughly reciprocate the attachment. The crows seek him out and perch upon his back and the donkey is sure to bring them around about mealtimes and there they sit in and for crumbs, while the donkey waits for his share in the shape of lumps of sugar from the children."
I hope you enjoyed this small tidbit of years gone by.
Stay safe and be well.
