GREENE COUNTY — Memorial Day weekend is one of those tricky holiday weekends. It’s the unofficial start of the summertime party season, but more importantly, it’s a time to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave everything for this great country of ours.
My Memorial Day weekend for me, started Friday at The Eliot at Catskill, where I DJed a BBQ for the residents. The weather was a little chilly, but the sun showed up just enough to make eating outside enjoyable. The food was amazing, the company was great, and along with the music, there was a very cool drone show put on by members of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. It’s pretty incredible what drones can do these days. I’m still waiting for one that can bring me a cheeseburger, I hear the technology is getting close.
Saturday and Sunday, I had some much-needed fun with friends and family. Then on Monday, Memorial Day, my niece and I attended the Cairo, NY Memorial Day Parade.
I’ve attended this parade pretty much every year for the past 10 years, and it is always well done, respectful, and meaningful. The ceremony at the end honors the soldiers of the United States who are no longer with us, and reminds everyone what the day is truly about. Because of the weather, attendance seemed a little lower this year than in past years, but it was still a great showing, a great parade, and a proud reminder of the community we live in.
So now, as we honor the fallen and carry their memory forward, we also welcome the start of summer, sun & fun for 2026. If you have an event going on this summer, let us know and we will try to stop by!
I am your Bro, LJ James, and I’ll see you around the Mountain.
