JEFFERSON - Old-time Dixieland band music will return to Jefferson with the Tim Roof Blues Band on Sunday, August 30. The concert will take place from the bandstand on the Jefferson Town Green from 3:00–4:30 p.m.
Mark Sands leads this new band, but many people may remember his performances in Jefferson several years ago with The Realtime Dixieland Band. The musicians bring a great deal of experience performing throughout the region. The band will play songs associated with Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, Jelly Roll Morton, as well as some more recent popular tunes.
Jefferson has a long history of music on the Town Green. The Jefferson Cornet Band was first formed in 1879 and for decades was well known throughout the region. In 1900, they had the bandstand built on the Town Green, where the band regularly performed while ice cream socials helped cool the crowds.
Bring a lawn chair, lean back, and close your eyes during the concert, and you may find yourself transported back more than a century, imagining the sounds of an early summer concert on this very same site.
The event is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the concert will move across the street to the Maple Museum at 221 Creamery Street, Jefferson.
Dick Herodes has generously sponsored this event. Dick grew up on his family’s farm on Nichols Road in Jefferson and graduated with the Jefferson Central School Class of 1955. We greatly appreciate his support in bringing live music back to the Jefferson Town Green.
