Early Museum Visitors

We often tell visitors that our original guestbook was the wall. Here you can see the names, dates, and hometowns of people who visited the Old Stone Fort Museum in its earliest days. Some of these inscriptions were written more than 120 years ago. Today, we've replaced that tradition with a real guest book and no longer accept new names on the walls. This fascinating piece was sent to us by the Old Stone Fort’s Clay Edmunds.

John Eckerson Name Carving

The stone in the center reads, "John Eckerson favour of the ground 1772." This inscription commemorates John Eckerson, who donated the land on which the church, later known as the Old Stone Fort, was built. His gift made the construction of the church possible and helped establish one of Schoharie's most enduring landmarks.
