Exciting Day in Margaretville & Community for Helipad Unveiling

MARGARETVILLE — On October 14, with fall colors forming the backdrop, the sound of a helicopter signaled the arrival of the official landing on the new helipad and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new helipad next to the Margaretville Hospital. Located steps from the front door of the hospital, it strengthens emergency transport capabilities and access to life-saving care at the hospital. Community members, hospital staff and the boards of the Margaretville Health Foundation and Margaretville Hospital, as well as many from Westchester Medical Center (WMC) and Health Alliance gathered to witness a long-awaited and anticipated addition to the critical care services of the hospital.

Michael Hochman, Executive Director of Margaretville Hospital, welcomed everyone and remarked that this was a “momentous moment for the hospital and community and will make a difference in patients’ lives.” Irene Testsekos, Sr. VP of Development for Westchester Medical Center, spoke of how grateful she and WMC are for the community’s support.

Congressman Josh Riley remarked on how this new helipad is a “big deal” and will provide better access for critical care patients in an area where health care is a challenge. Margaretville Hospital Board President Emily Adams remarked that a milestone was reached today in accessing care due to the strength of our community to help fund this, and working with the WMC network.

Noted throughout the speakers’ remarks were the $200,00 grant from Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, NYS Rural Access Grant, O’Connor Foundation, the art auctions and many fundraisers and donor drives that were held during the past few years to help fund the helipad.

Kim Coppage, Margaretville Hospital’s Director of Nursing, is very excited that critically ill patients will now be able to be transported quicker when time is of the essence.

Community Member Steve Finch remarked that “it’s a great day for Margaretville Hospital and emergency services in our community. Thanks to the Foundation for making it all come together.”
