GILBOA - The GCR Boys Varsity soccer team has opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion, capturing the Downsville Tournament championship and racing out to a perfect 5-0 record.

GCR clinched the Downsville Tournament title on September 12 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over host Downsville. The championship capped a strong opening stretch that also included a 2-1 win over Section 9 Class A opponent Liberty on September 11 and a 2-0 victory over Section 9 Class B Fallsburg on September 9.

Those three victories gave GCR a 3-0 start to the season and plenty of momentum heading into Delaware League competition.

The winning has continued in league play, with GCR earning victories over Stamford/Jefferson and Margaretville to improve its overall record to 5-0.

The schedule remains busy for GCR as the boys look to keep their unbeaten start going. Up next, they will compete in the Hunter Tournament while also facing Roundout Valley and Worcester during the coming week.

With a tournament championship already secured and five consecutive victories to open the season, GCR will look to carry its early-season momentum into a challenging stretch of tournament and league play.
