History at the Old Stone Fort - Candle Holder & Dome-Top Box

Chamber Stick Candle Holder

A chamber stick is a short candle holder with a wide pan at its base to catch dripping wax. Designed for portability, it was commonly carried from room to room, especially at night, providing light while helping prevent spills and fire hazards.

Donated by Smith Young and shared by the Old Stone Fort’s Clay Edmunds.

Dome-Top Box

This dome-top box was made in 1779 and belonged to Elizabeth Finck, whose initials “E.F.” and the year “1779” are carved into the surface. The box is constructed of white pine and decorated with hand-colored printed paper, demonstrating both craftsmanship and personal artistry.
