Junior Explorers: Flags Through Time at the Old Stone Fort

SCHOHARIE — The Old Stone Fort Museum is excited to announce an upcoming Junior Explorers program all about flags and the stories they tell. Designed for young learners, this hands-on experience invites children to discover how colors, symbols, and patterns can represent people, places, and history.

In this fun and interactive lesson, participants will explore the fascinating world of flags through games, activities, and creative challenges. Children will learn how to recognize common patterns and symbols, uncover the meanings behind them, and discover how flags have been used throughout history to communicate identity, pride, and important messages. Along the way, they will also learn about some of the interesting techniques used in early flag making and gain an appreciation for the craftsmanship involved in creating these historic symbols.

Participants will have the opportunity to design and create their very own flags to take home, using what they have learned about symbolism, storytelling, and design.

Two sessions of the Junior Explorers: Flag Discovery Lesson will be offered:

  • Friday, June 12 at 10:00 AM
  • Saturday, June 13 at 10:00 AM

Both sessions will take place at the Badgley Annex, located at 148 Fort Road in Schoharie, NY.

The program is recommended for children in 1st through 5th grade (ages 6-10), though older and younger siblings are also welcome.

The cost is $5 per child and free for members of The Old Stone Fort Museum. Pre-registration is required. To register, please email director@theoldstonefort.org with the lesson name, preferred date, number of children attending, and membership status, or register on The Old Stone Fort website.
