ESPERANCE — Landis Arboretum will host a seasonal workshop in early June designed to teach area residents how to safely identify, harvest, and prepare wild edible plants and mushrooms native to the regional landscape.

The program, titled "Foraging in the Northeast - An Introduction," is scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop will commence at the Nicholas J. Juried Meeting House at the arboretum’s property on Lape Road.

The session will be led by veteran forager Fred Breglia, who will guide participants through identifying common edible species found throughout regional fields and woodlands. Breglia's instruction will focus primarily on his personal favorites from a culinary perspective, highlighting gourmet wild varieties available across the spring, summer, and autumn seasons in the Northeast.

In addition to identification techniques, the presentation will cover practical field tips on how to properly harvest, prepare, and cook foraged ingredients for home meals.

Admission to the two-hour workshop is $30 for Landis Arboretum members and $45 for nonmembers. Registration can be completed through the arboretum's standard scheduling channels.
