ARKVILLE — Jane Loeb Rubin will discuss her historical novel Mayhem in the Mountains during an evening program from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Union Grove Distillery at Union Grove.

The event, presented by Writers in the Mountains and Union Grove, will focus on the regional and personal history behind Rubin’s book, as well as the background and research that shaped the fourth installment in her best-selling, award-winning Gilded City series. A question-and-answer session with the audience will follow.

Set in the Catskills in 1924, Mayhem in the Mountains explores a turbulent period marked by Prohibition, bootlegging, whiskey stills and the rise of the Ku Klux Klan after World War I. Against that backdrop, the Isaacson family fights to defend its land, livelihood and each other.

The evening will be held in Union Grove’s historic building and will include craft cocktails, soft drinks and a fresh Mex taco truck. Copies of the book will be available online, through local booksellers and at the event. Attendees may bring copies for the author to sign.
