SCHOHARIE — To celebrate the 25th annual Summer Youth Cultural & Performing Arts Program at Depot Lane Theater in Schoharie, participants “journeyed” to the birthplace of Western Civilization; Greece.

Band Camp will be taking place July 20th through July 25th under the direction of Scott Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins is the Band Director at Duanesburg Central School and an active musician in the region. The theme for the camp is “Opa! Let’s Go to Greece!” During the week, students will explore the foundational influence of ancient Greek theater and music on Western culture. Participants will engage with this rich legacy by learning traditional folk music, Greek folk dance, as well as exploring ancient myths, and performing pieces by contemporary Greek composers.

The participating students will perform two concerts: one Friday night, July 24th at 6:00 pm at Depot Lane Theater. Participants will share a potluck dinner of Greek-inspired dishes following the concert. Saturday’s concert, July 25th, begins at 6:05 pm and is at the pavilion of the Schoharie Presbyterian Church. Please bring a lawn chair for the outdoor concert. Admission to the concerts is $5 per person.
