Prattsville's 250th Birthday Celebration on Saturday, August 29

PRATTSVILLE – Next weekend, August 29, Saturday, will be the Prattsville Town 250th Birthday Celebration for the USA. Please plan to attend with the parade and ceremonies starting off the festivities at 1 PM. There will many vendors, exhibitors, and organizations offering varied and interesting items for your perusal. Let’s make this celebration a great day.

Congratulations to Rebecca and Eric Dymond on their marriage this past Saturday, August 15.

Got in touch with Janet Brainerd to find out how she is doing. With her two great grandchildren to keep her company and cover her with kisses and hugs, she is thriving. She is under the care of her son Georgie and Becky, his wife. Georgie and Becky were able to get away for the weekend to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. There is nothing like family care and love to keep your spirits bright.

Janet’s daughter Connie and husband Michael Constable of Voorheesville are playing hosts to Michael’s mom Carol Constable now and then. Carol’s husband Skeet is at Greene Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Catskill. Skeet welcomes visits from his acquaintances from all eras of his life.

Early alert for our students as they begin the new school year. You must STOP for stopped school buses as our children board them for school, some riding the bus for the first time, and return to their homes in the afternoon. And the greater number of our students ride the buses to get to school. Follow the law and keep our children safe.

Rick and Nancy Gurley Hodge were in her hometown of Prattsville for a few days of parent sitting, and they did a good job of care giving and they are welcomed back any time. While in town, Nancy got to enjoy an evening out with classmates Laurie Mattice, Robin Fleischman, Veronica MacAvoy Gonseth. and Julie Masonich Capobianco. The classmates enjoyed dinner at the Brandywine followed by desserts at Robin’s. The group are Alumna, Class of 1977, Gilboa Conesville Central School. While the ladies were reminiscing, Ginny Gurley, Rick, and Bobby Gurley enjoyed food at the Prattsville Tavern. And just to make the evening special, they met up with Ginny’s first cousin Glenn Howard and wife Carole and Carole’s first cousin Jane and husband Dick. Yes, that is Dick and Jane. Much of the time between Ginny and Glenn was spent exchanging updates on their Howard genealogy making sure the other one knew certain facts about their mutual relatives. Bobby had a chance to play catch up with one of his high school teachers, Dave Zambi, from long ago. It was a good time for all. Glenn wanted to be put in touch with an officer of the Zadock Pratt Museum because he is in the possession of boxes of letters, pamphlets, newspaper and magazine articles and pictures featuring Bear Pen Ski Area from the early 1960s. Oh what could have been. Thanks to the Rennells of Little West Kill we can still have some enjoyment of winter sports in Prattsville – Little West Kill - at Bear Pen Sports Center. The Sports Center also has special events as per the time of year or holidays. It is very family oriented.

Many of Prattsville made the trip to Windham on Saturday and Sunday to attend a few yard sales. The shoppers included Darcy Jaeger-Brand, Stephanie Braswell, Shelly Brainard and Ginny Gurley and they picked up Mindy Sokoll on the way. All the ladies made some good choices and that produced smiles of satisfaction on their faces. Nancy Kizyma of Lexington called to alert fellow yard sale mavens for yard sales in her area in the Lexington/Jewett area. Thanks also to Dotty Pickett for all her alerts to the sales in the Gilboa/Conesville area, check out her column in last week’s Mountain Eagle.

Feel better wishes go out to Diane Cammer Eklund of Maple Lane. Also good health sentiments go to Randy Brainerd who is currently in hospital in Westchester Hospital. Would also like to thank Diane for the books she donated to the upcoming Prattsville event on August 29. The books will be offered, free will offering, by the American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 at their booth for the benefit of our veterans. Our veterans and active military can always use our help and support, locally and nationally.

Happy Birthday to Jesse Etricini and new bridegroom Eric Dymond on August 23. On August 26 we wish Jeremy Marsh, Steve Haight and John Maynard all Happy Birthday. On August 28 we wish Cortney Brainerd a very Happy Birthday. We send super Happy Anniversary wishes to Arnold and Diana Jaeger on August 26.
