STAMFORD — Sacred Heart Church in Stamford is inviting parishioners and community members to participate in a special study and discussion series honoring the Jubilee Year of St. Francis of Assisi, declared by Pope Leo XIV.

Beginning on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, participants will gather to read and discuss classic Franciscan works, including The Little Flowers of St. Francis and St. Bonaventure’s Life of St. Francis. The series will also explore themes central to the life and spirituality of St. Francis, including creation, contemplation, obedience, penance, and devotion to the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

While St. Francis is often remembered for his embrace of simplicity and care for creation, organizers note that his deep devotion to Eucharistic adoration and the Holy Cross were at the heart of his faith. His humility and trust in God inspired a life dedicated to serving others and recognizing all creation as a gift from the Creator.

The influence of St. Francis continues to be felt throughout the Christian world, from the Franciscan guardianship of holy sites in the Holy Land to the popularization of the Nativity scene and Eucharistic devotion.

The series will culminate with a pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi in Catskill, New York, in October.
