Soul Is Alive and Well: Les Greene & the Swayzees in Roxbury Sept. 4th

ROXBURY — Les Greene is coming to rock Hilt Kelly Hall in Roxbury with his boundless energy and magnetic stage presence on Friday September 4th at 7:30p. With his band The Swayzees, Greene delivers high-energy roots rock 'n' soul that honors the genre's foundations while bringing contemporary fire and electrifying dance moves. Tickets are on sale now with tiered pricing at roxburyartsgroup.org

Greene, who was the voice of Little Richard in Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" was just honored as a top 5 finalists (out of 6,000 entires!) in NPR’s 2026 TIny Desk Competition.  Born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised partially in Guyana, Greene's musical foundation was built on Guyanese television, which didn't broadcast commercials but filled breaks with stills accompanied by 1950s and '60s soul music from  artists like Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Ben E. King. While the core of Greene's music lies a deep reverence for these  traditions of soul and R&B, he's never been one to simply replicate the sounds of the past. Instead, he infuses elements of R&B, funk, and jazz to create a sound that feels both timeless and fresh.

A natural-born performer with a magnetic presence, Greene transforms every show into an experience. Whether he's commanding the stage with his soulful voice and blistering guitar solos or leaping into the air, Greene is a consummate entertainer, capable of captivating audiences and delivering memorable performances.  Don’t miss this opportunity to experience this exceptional performer  on the Roxbury Arts Group stage this Labor Day weekend! Tickets available now for the show at 7:30 pm on Friday September 4, 2026.

Tickets: $12  | $21  | $28, 16 and under free
