MARGARETVILLE – The Meadows Golf Center & All American BBQ will host a free Fall Community Outdoors Day on Saturday, Oct. 3, from noon to 7 p.m. The event will bring fly fishing, disc golf, family activities and food to The Meadows' property along the East Branch of the Delaware River in the Catskill Mountains.
The day also marks the opening of The Meadows' new nine-hole disc golf course, designed by pro disc golfer Dan Eignor, who will give free lessons throughout the afternoon.
"We've got a trout river running along the property and a brand new disc golf course, so this felt like the right way to close out the season," said Russ Matson, owner and pitmaster of The Meadows. "Come out, try something new, and stay for some barbecue. Bring the kids and the dog too."
From noon to 4 p.m., the Ashokan-Pepacton Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a Family Fishing Day. Chapter board members will give casting lessons and demonstrations and talk with attendees about conservation issues affecting rivers in the region.
The chapter will also run a yard sale of fishing gear, books and fly-tying materials. "This is a great opportunity for both experienced and new anglers to pick up whatever items you might need at a very modest cost," said Chris Hensley, a director of the Ashokan-Pepacton Watershed Chapter.
Around 4 p.m., chapter members will head to the stretch of the East Branch that borders the golf center for community fishing. "If anyone else wants to fish with us, all the better," Hensley said. Anglers 16 and older will need a valid New York State fishing license. Children under 16 do not need one, and no license is needed for the casting lessons.
Local artist Raquel Brizzi of Raquel Creates will lead a hands-on activity for kids and families. More community partners are still being confirmed.
Between noon and 1 p.m., OneLife USA, a multi-day supercar rally, will stop for lunch on its way from New York City to Lake Placid. The cars will be on display for about 90 minutes.
Raffle tickets will be sold on-site, with proceeds benefiting the Ashokan-Pepacton Watershed Chapter. Prizes include items from West Kill Brewing and a signed copy of "The Fly Fishing Book" from West Kill author and illustrator Steven Weinberg. More prizes will be announced before the event.
Golf, mini golf and disc golf will be open all day. The driving range will host the car display and disc golf lessons, so it will be open only at times during the day. All American BBQ & Bar will serve food, beer and cocktails from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with specials on Saturday. The event falls in the final weeks of The Meadows' 2026 season, as fall color arrives in the Catskills. Admission is free, and the event is family-friendly and dog-friendly.
