PRATTSVILLE – Our 250th Birthday is not over in one day or weekend so continue to celebrate your freedoms.
250 thank you wishes go out to those in the Discover Life Church of Prattsville and the La Salle family for the terrific fireworks on Friday evening, July 3. They must have lasted at least forty-five minutes and seemed to be unique. The glow from them lasted long after all their noise had abated. I wonder what the motorists thought as they traveled west on Route 23A and into what seemed to be the center of the fireworks. Thank you again to all for the celebration.
Jim and Peggy Young hosted an outdoor soccer game screening on Wednesday evening at their home. Approximately twenty people were there to enjoy and CHEER for Team USA, And to sweeten the evening the USA team won 2 – 0. But with that red flag looming over the team’s chances for this week’s game, we will need lots of cheers and luck to continue on for their quest for gold. GO USA.
It may be a week late but want to mention that the Sutton families celebrated all the last weekend of June. On June 27 Billy Sutton celebrated his 80th birthday with an open house at his daughter Sheila’s home on lower Main Street. It took the well wishers all day to give Billy their Happy Birthday greetings up close and personal. Happy 80th again Billy. Enjoy your family and friends for another 80 years. Then Billy’s celebration was followed with his great niece’s graduation party in Stamford. The graduate is a granddaughter of Stanley Sr. and Carol Jaeger Sutton. Congratulations to all.
Mary Cline is in residence again after a prolonged stay in the City area. Her family wanted to take care of her for a while and she agreed. But there is nothing like home and we welcome her back to the Catskill Mountains.
It was mentioned in the previous Prattsville Scoop that Father Joe Cebula would be our Celebrant at Masses at Roman Catholic Churches: Sacred Heart Stamford and St. Philip Neri Grand Gorge as well as at Margaretsville RC Church, following their posted schedules. Father Cebula was here and he was welcomed at St. Philip’s in remembrance of times past. Many had not seen him since his transfer in 2000. He had served our Parish for about sixteen years and continues to be active serving parishes while their posted Priests are on vacation or on personal leave. Father Joe remains active, he loves to play golf, and stays active in his life of serving God. St. Philip’s was filled, as it always was when Father Joe was our Parish Priest. Many of our parishioners traveled to Italy with him and Father David Baberrian in 2001, including the Lanes and Gurleys. And a good time was had by all. Thank you for watching out for us and bringing back fond memories. Many will remember his supposed motto of ‘the hotter the weather, the shorter the homily.’ See you Sunday.
Monday nights are German Night at Christman’s Windham House. The specialty on June 29 was soon depleted with some lamenting the fact that they waited too long to order. Well, it was Germany playing in the FIFA game and that made the specialty a favorite. Claudia and Ray Bracaliello, Johannes and Marianne Krauss and Ginny Gurley were among the diners.
RSK Farms are now open for the season. Stop by and support local businesses and save gas money. Perhaps Bob can tell me how to keep the assorted varmints out of my garden. They seem to like the green beans and cucumber plants.
We hope Jim’s Great American does not charge for parking for those who just take up more parking time while they exchange information with those they have not seen recently. Case in point: Terrie Castle of Gilboa was in high spirits because she and husband have the good fortune to be able to escape this brutal heat with their full home air conditioning. Good for them, they deserve to be able to enjoy their retirement. Well, anyway Dale’s retirement as Terrie is still busy with her accounting firm as well as keeping busy with her many beautiful crafts.
