The Prattsville Scoop by Abby and Gabby - 15 June 2026

PRATTSVILLE - Happy Father’s Day to you fine gentlemen. Have a great day and enjoy the love of your family. They can or should handle the barbecue for your day.

There will not be a Scoop column for the June 23 issue of the Register Star nor the June 26 issue of the Mountain Eagle. So…..I extend to all …...

Happy 4th of July and a 250th Anniversary Celebration to our USA. Enjoy and remember what makes us free. We thank all veterans for their service that guarantees of freedoms. They are our heroes. Happy 250th fellow Americans!

AND New York, New York. Congratulations to the New York Knicks for taking the Championship NBA Title. It is a long time since their last Championship. Congratulations also to Team USA on their win in the 1st round of the World Soccer Championship.

Now for welcome home greetings. Charlie and Beverly Becker Santo have arrived home from Florida for the summer. Charlie said they arrived home Saturday, the 13th, around 2 PM. He usually starts getting out all his residential sized toys, as in backhoe, lawnmower, etc., but he said he had to get the water and other utilities hooked up, and that exhausted him, so those things will have to wait for another day. Beverly will probably have the schedules of all the upcoming yard sales, etc. ready for them. Good to have you back.

Lisa Birnbaum is home from her trip to Japan to visit with their daughter’s family and most importantly to help celebrate the first birthday of granddaughter Ellie. Lisa said she had a wonderful time with Ellie and family, taking in the local sites and tasting that fabulous beef. She said even Ellie got to taste some of the steak. They cut it up in mini size bites for the smallest of diners. Lisa said they are looking forward to the next visit which will include husband Stephen and son Donald. Family gatherings are always the best.

Family gatherings. The Roxie and Jim Kings are looking forward to a King gathering of ten for the upcoming weekend. Jim is of the opinion that tents put up by the visitors are the best solution to the limited space situation. He was the perfect gentleman at the store and helped extricate a lady shopped who had her cart entangled in a rolling merchandise shelf. Thanks go out to Jim. Now you won’t believe this but….. When the Kings were tearing down sheds and small coops on their property, Jim found a desiccated possum skeleton with tanned hide. The not believing part is Jim still has this but did not have nor since give this object a name. How about a contest to name the remains of this creature and send your suggestions to gurleyrv@gmail.com. We can have Jim choose the winner. Regardless, Roxie is of the opinion and rule that it shall remain in the garage. Yes, some people do have too much time on their hands.

Congratulations to fellow columnist Chris Dwon of “Out Lexington Way” fame on her granddaughter Abigail Dwon being named Valedictorian of the Hunter Tannersville Class of 2026. Abigail’s credits are awesome and we wish her success in the future.

Thankfully we have had some small rain showers. We can still use more rain and some are saying it looks to be another dry summer. Our private gardeners can use all the help/rain they can get from Mother Nature.

Speaking of gardens: RSK FARMS will be opening for the season on the 4th of July weekend. How appropriate for this dual celebrations. Good luck to Bob and Sandy for a bountiful harvest for the 2026 season.
