Community members voted Tuesday to approve the funding proposition for the Fairview Public Library and Skene Memorial Library by a margin of 252 to 164.
The approved proposition will provide stable, reliable funding for both the Fairview Public Library in Margaretville and the Skene Memorial Library in Fleischmanns, helping ensure continued access to essential library services, programs, technology, and resources for residents throughout the community.
The Boards of Trustees of both libraries expressed appreciation to voters for their support and participation in the election.
“We are deeply grateful to the community for recognizing the important role our libraries play in the lives of residents of all ages,” the boards said in a joint statement. “This vote helps ensure that the Fairview Public Library and Skene Memorial Library can continue serving as welcoming community spaces and trusted educational resources for years to come.”
New York State library budget votes are governed by Education Law 259, which allows communities to directly vote on library funding. Approval through a public vote helps provide libraries with consistent support for daily operations, services, and future planning.
The libraries thanked all residents who participated in the vote and for their continued support of public library services in the region.
