Lorcan Otway is an author, photojournalist, community historian, and Arts and Culture reporter for The Mountain Eagle. Deeply rooted in the storytelling traditions of both New York City and the Catskills, Lorcan brings decades of unique cultural experience to his coverage of local events, regional history, and community profiles.

Before permanently relocating to the Catskills, Lorcan spent much of his life in NYC’s East Village, where he grew up stage-managing his family's historic theater, Theatre 80 St. Marks, and later founded the Museum of the American Gangster.

His varied career spans working as a conflict photojournalist in Belfast, a traditional uilleann piper and harpist, a wooden boat builder, and a legal advocate for marginalized communities, holding a Juris Doctor degree from NYU School of Law.

Today, Lorcan focuses his storytelling on celebrating the heritage, characters, and vibrant arts scene of Delaware, Greene, and Schoharie counties. Alongside his reporting, he and his wife, Genie, are currently establishing the Catskill Folklife Museum in Grand Gorge to preserve the traditional crafts and local history of the region.
