In Loving Memory of James R. Nattrass

James R. Nattrass, age 70, passed away on October 19, 2026, in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Known as Jimmy, or “Jimi” (as he preferred to spell it in tribute to the legendary Jimi Hendrix), he was born on December 3, 1955, in Amityville, New York, alongside his identical twin brother, Thomas (“Tommy”) Nattrass. The brothers grew up in Bethpage, New York, sharing a lifelong bond.

Jimmy enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Respiratory Therapist, a profession he took great pride in.

Music was another lifelong passion. An enthusiastic musician and hobbyist, Jimmy especially loved playing music alongside his brother Tommy and the many friends with whom he shared that passion over the years. He also had a love of karate and proudly earned his black belt in Washin-Ryu karate.

Jimmy was a proud father to his only daughter, Chelsea Nattrass, and took immense pride in being both a father and grandfather to his two beloved granddaughters, Marisol and Mae. They brought him tremendous joy, and being part of their lives was one of the greatest highlights of his life.

Jimmy shared a loving relationship with his longtime partner and companion, Helen Ruland. Their commitment to one another was unwavering, and Helen stood by his side through sickness and health, caring for him with love and devotion. Their love and the life they shared were an important part of Jimmy's story.

Over the years, Jimmy enjoyed gathering with friends at the Eagles Club in Cobleskill, where good stories, good company, and a few libations were always welcome. Those who shared these moments with him will remember the friendships that made those times special.

Jimmy is survived by his longtime partner and companion, Helen Ruland; his daughter, Chelsea Nattrass (Tim Wappat), and his beloved granddaughters, Marisol and Mae Wappat, of Oneonta; his siblings, Tommy Nattrass, Frank Nattrass, Russell Nattrass, and Virginia Montemurro (Carlos); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members.

His passing is a particularly profound loss for his twin brother, Tommy, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and a bond unlike any other. Our thoughts are with Tommy, Helen, Chelsea, and all who are mourning Jimmy's loss during this difficult time.

The family plans to hold a celebration of life in Jimmy's honor in late spring 2027. Details will be shared at a later date.

He will be deeply missed.
