Welcome from the Director
In 2026, as we navigate a world defined by rapid technological shifts and digital saturation, the value of a creative and supportive atmosphere is more energizing than ever. The Catskill region is renowned for its rich history of artistic experimentation, and here at Sugar Maples Center For Creative Arts, nestled amidst the breathtaking Catskill Mountains watershed, offers the ideal setting to embark on a journey of artistic discovery in our beautiful studios. Our summer program is designed to empower your creativity.
We champion the framework of arts as cognition. This perspective argues that the arts are far more than just emotional outlets or aesthetic pursuits; they are fundamental forms of cognitive processing and language. Making art is a way of thinking, a method of understanding the world, and a sophisticated tool for problem-solving that engages the mind in complex ways.
Our beautiful campus serves as a natural sanctuary for the practice of art. When we gather to work with our hands and minds, we are participating in a restorative practice that strengthens the social fabric. By choosing to join a workshop this summer, you are not just learning a craft; you are investing in your own ‘voice’ and contributing to a culture of empathy and innovation. Experience the transformative power of creativity and learning in an environment that honors the depth of the human journey. Arrive, unpack, and connect with like-minded individuals in a world of collective possibilities. We look forward to your visit and the incredible work we will create together.
-Kulvinder Kaur Dhew, Director
