ANDES – District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced today that, Chelsea A. Shultis, 30, of Andes, pleaded guilty in the Town of Andes Court on July 23, 2026, in front of the Honorable Thomas H. Joyce to one count of Driving While Intoxicated, an Unclassified Misdemeanor.  The defendant’s sentencing was adjourned for one year, during which she will be placed on interim probation supervision.  At sentencing, the court will evaluate the defendant’s conduct on interim probation to determine an appropriate sentence. 

On March 21, NYS Trooper Anthony Valente observed a vehicle disabled in what appeared to be a one car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28.  The vehicle’s airbags were deployed, and the vehicle was heavily damaged.  The driver, identified as Chelsea A. Shultis, stated she was fine and did not require medical attention.  Shultis stated she had accidentally gone into the ditch.  Trooper Valente detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from Shultis’ breath, causing him to make an inquiry about Shultis’ alcoholic consumption, and Shultis replied saying she had a few drinks at dinner.  Trooper Valente conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on Shultis, and her performance was indicative of intoxication.  Shultis also submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test which showed positive results for alcohol.
