1 min read 10 views

BROOME — The Broome Volunteer Fire Department launched a new community event last Friday, hosting its inaugural "Build Your Own Burger" night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the fire station. Jim Schilling sent us this report and photos.

The fundraiser featured a fully stocked serving line equipped with traditional burger toppings alongside specialty additions such as sautéed mushrooms, bacon, and fried eggs.

The novel dining concept attracted both local residents and out-of-state visitors. Among the attendees was the Forbis family from Texas, who noted that they are currently planning a relocation to the region.

Behind the scenes, the event relied on a coordinated team effort by local volunteers. Firefighters Kristen and Vinnie managed the kitchen operations to ensure a steady supply of fresh french fries and onion rings throughout the evening. Volunteer Jess Trombley emphasized that the success of the department's programs routinely depends on teamwork.

Organizers reported strong community turnout in support of the fire department's operational causes.

The department's next major public fundraiser will be a bingo night scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at 7 p.m.
