HARPERSFIELD – District Attorney Shawn Smith announced today that Thomas E. Davis,72, of Harpersfield, appeared in the Town of Harpersfield Court on July 20, 2026, and pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.  

Davis appeared before the Honorable Lawrence Musella, Town of Harpersfield Court Judge, on Monday and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and fines set by the court.

In August of 2025, New York State Police received a report of stolen property – more specifically tools, at a residence located on Wood Road in Jefferson. A tip had been received identifying Thomas Davis as a person who had stopped at the residence the day before the property was found. When interviewed, Davis made admissions to concealing the stolen property in a porta-potty on Wood Road and admitted transporting the stolen tools to that location in his own vehicle.

District Attorney Shawn Smith commended State Police Investigator Adam Cernauskas and Trooper Siobhan Carey for their thorough investigation into this case “ If it was not for the dedicated hard work of the New York State Police, this case and others would not have been solved.”
