DELHI – District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced today that Scott T. Barnhart, of Walton, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court on September 1 to one count of Criminal Mischief Intent to Damage Property, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Harassment in the Second Degree, a Violation.

On November 5, 2025, the New York State Police was notified of a domestic dispute. Upon investigation, and interviewing the victim, it was determined that on November 4th, the defendant, identified as Scott T. Barnhart, had pushed down the victim and engaged in other inappropriate behavior toward her. During the altercation, he also damaged the home of the victim. 

Barnhart appeared before the Honorable John Hubbard at Delaware County Court on September 1st and pleaded guilty to Criminal Mischief and Harassment in the Second Degree. Judge Hubbard sentenced Barnhart to a one-year conditional discharge for both charges. The court granted a three-year stay away order of protection in favor of the victim. This required the defendant to surrender any and all firearms, and he is not allowed to possess any for the next three years.

After pleading guilty, a restitution hearing was conducted. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Honorable John L. Hubbard found that the defendant owed the victim $1400 for damage he caused to the property. He was ordered to pay that amount within 60 days.

District Attorney Smith commended the work of NYS Troopers Grace Taylor, Siobhan Carey and James Vlahakis for their work on this case. “Domestic abuse can not be tolerated. I can only hope that the outcome of this case prevents this from happening again.”
